Woke up mostly on time after a bunch of terrible dreams. Basically, Elizabeth Warren lost the Dem primary, and she wanted me to vote for the winner, but there was no fucking way I was voting for Bernie Sanders. She made me fly to some house in the middle of nowhere to retire, but I hated it.
Worked from home. Lunch = leftover coconut shrimp + moro rice.
Took 2 new tickets. Both seemed simple, but generated loooong discussions because no one else knew what was going on.
Dinner = Mom's chicken & rice + leftover shak + a couple of drinks.D&D
was fucking GREAT!
Al insisted Ajax take the rear in case Butler tried to sneak up on us again. Al & I could tell that the runes covering the tunnel created a strong structural integrity field to hold the tunnel in place. The exit would put us squarely in Summer Court territory. Normally if we entered uninvited, we would get lost or pushed out. The runes were a way around that, a very serious weakness in Summer's defenses.
We exited into a sparsely furnished room w/ a stone coffin, a dead tree, and Moran pacing back and forth. Magic is either being kept in or out of the coffin, we couldn't tell. Al tried to sneak up on Moran. "Where are they? Why aren't they here yet?" Al tripped him. "Who told you?" "The voices tell me." Ajax insisted he answer our questions, but Moran couldn't hear because he wasn't in the room. We dragged Ajax into the room, and the interrogation began:
Where's the girl? In the coffin.
How do you open the coffin? Dunno, I blacked out.
How did you get the coffin? The Black Hands sent it.
Why? I didn't want to work with them, they took my wife and my son.
What's the tree? Think it drains magic from the court to keep the coffin closed.
Who told you to expect us? Them.
If the Black Hnads took your son... Not the Black Hands. Them.
But how? This is their world, how do you not know this?
How did you get the girl in the coffin? I just explained that I don't know, were you not listening?
What happens if we open the coffin? I. DON'T. KNOW.
Moran paused to ask "Have you heard the myth of The Six? No? SPARE ME YOUR LIES." Al asked "Can you use adjacent words to describe them?"
Moran continued to insult us because he's sad that we're so stupid. We can't arrest him because the spirits will kill him, but Delvalore *is* here to kill him!
Ajax asked Moran if he didn't commit all those crimes he's been accused of. Of course he did, but he was coerced. Delvalore realized his killer was actually acolyte Davis! Moran insisted he acted under someone else's orders. Delvalore said his pact with Ajax is null since Moran isn't his murderer. He vanished, off to kill acolyte Davis. Ajax failed miserably to stop him from leaving.
Ajax asked Moran if he had evidence of being manipulated. Moran listed the places we've been and the plots we've stopped and insisted they're all linked. I asked Moran to stop fucking around and tell us the story of The Six.
The Black Hands have collections. Moran learned from these collections the basic details of 6 children of 2 gods. 1 god sacrificed itself to seal way The Six. The little girl and her mother were descendants of The Six. Nixian society was prosperous until they no longer wanted to serve the gods, now their continent is lost. This world is The Six's prison, they want to be free. That would be very bad for us.
Ajax asked Moran to open the coffin. Moran went through the motions, but nothing happened. Al found no seams on the coffin. Al & I could feel something in the room. Jonesy does too. "Are any of The Six in this room?" "No, they may be looking elsewhere."
Al asked Moran, who FINALLY revealed he has an idea on how to stop this. The device. Al opened desks and found the device Master Devlin stole for Moran from the Church of the Raven Queen.
Al put 2 & 2 together: This is a jailbreak! Al asked Jonesy if souls are useful. OF COURSE! Endlessly useful! Al takes the next leap: souls are powering the jailbreak! I hear a voice: "Tell us more. I want to hear." I immediately get the fuck out of the room, but not before I grab Al's last mist marble. A shape formed in front of me. "I want that knowledge, I want it now." It threatened the others. I tried to get it to back off. Did it work? I have no idea, but the form dissipated.
I returned to the room. "No vampire at the other end of the hall. Nope." I tried to examine the device. Nothing. Jonesy said she would need more time to study it. She asked to hold it, Al obliged. It started spinning wildly. WTF? She started muttering in a strange language. Moran said "Uh oh, maybe it's not you clowns, but the Ortegas?" Al tried to reclaim the device, and Jonesy's eyes opened. The muttering is Nixian! Ajax tried to lay on hands, no joy. With the goggles on, Al could see glowing blue energy.
While Ajax prayed to Avandra to free Jonesy from possession, Al tried to find a treehole to explode. Ajax made contact! Jonesy is learning so much, so quickly!
Al put a fire marble in the tree and asked me to hit it. I eldritch blasted the fuck out of that hole, possibly with divine guidance. After the tree exploded, the coffin started creaking.
Ajax tried to knock the device out of Jonesy's hand with Chainbreaker, and she collapsed. "Everything's returning to normal. Paranoia levels dropping."
Ajax told Moran to gather up the sheets and use that to wrap up the device. There's a little girl in the coffin. Moran wrapped her up in a blanket. We headed back out, mostly the way we came.
We tried, anyway. A very cranky Butler pulled through a wall. "Don't make a noise, I don't want to ruin the surprise." I yelled at the top of my lungs "WHAT SURPRISE??" Butler said "I see" and bit me. I'd never been bitten by a vampire before and holy fuck did it hurt.
Jonesy walked through the wall behind Butler and hit him with Dire Radiance. Al opened a hole in the wall and tossed in the holy mist grenade. POOF! Now none of us could see.
Ajax clobbered Butler as soon as he exited the mist, but Butler refused to let me go until Frider & Sparky bit him. Frider gets too vicious bites in before Butler could free himself. The vampire immediately dominated Ajax, who clobbered Sparky. Butler misted away, but his escape was thwarted by everyone's attacks of opportunity. Jonesy lights him up with one last Dire Radiance, and the vampire exploded.
Ajax apologized profusely to Sparky, but the hellhound wasn't buying it./D&D
Stayed up too late because the game went long, and also because holy fuck whatever was in the garbage started rotting.
